    Emergency “Bug-Out” Bag Contents


    Emergencies can strike anywhere and at any time from crippling winter ice storms in Missouri and Kansas to unthinkable terrorist attacks. You may be able to stay in your home for safety but your just as likely to be forced out of your home. In either case the following list will make you prepared for either situation. Each member of your household should be responsible for their own supplies so each member of your family will have their own “bug-out” bag

    General
    1. Battery operated radio
    2. Flashlight (preferable a “no battery” flashlight)
    3. Matches and a lighter
    4. Extra batteries (lithium) for all battery operated devices
    5. Extra set of house and car keys
    6. Several hundred dollars in cash (singles, 10’s and 20’s)


    Clothing / Bedding
    Plan to wear several layers of loose fitting clothing (to trap body heat)
    1. One complete change of clothing
    2. One pair extra footwear (sturdy shoes or boots)
    3. 2 Pair of wool Sox (keeps feet warm in winter, cool in summer)
    4. Rain gear
    5. Blankets or sleeping bag
    6. Hat and gloves
    7. Thermal underwear


    Tools / Supplies
    1. Paper cups
    2. Plates
    3. Plastic eating utensils
    4. Manual can opener (crank or several "P-38" style)
    5. Utility knife
    6. Basic tools (pliers, hammer, screwdriver)
    7. Duct Tape roll
    8. Electrical tape roll
    9. Plastic storage container
    10. Fire Extinguisher

    Sanitation
    1. Toilet paper
    2. Towelettes
    3. Soap (liquid detergent)
    4. Hand sanitizer
    5. Feminine supplies
    6. Plastic garbage bag
    7. Plastic bucket
    8. Household chlorine bleach
    9. Stick Deodorant


    Food / Drinks
    1. 1 gallon water per person per day (minimum) – 3 Days Supply
    2. “Ready to Eat” canned meats, soups, fruit - 3 Day supply
    3. High Energy foods (peanut butter, granola bars, trail mix, jelly)
    4. Canned or bottled juice
    5. Comfort foods (cookies, hard candy, cereal, instant coffee, tea)


    Medical Kit
    1. Band-Aids
    2. Plastic bottle of hydrogen peroxide (small)
    3. Imodium
    4. Aspirin
    5. Waterproof bandage tape
    6. Gauze pads (3)
    7. Tweezers
    8. Small pair scissors

    Special items
    1. Medications (prescription and non-prescription) – 1 weeks worth
    2. Extra eye glasses (inexpensive drug store type)
    3. Important family documents (copies of birth certificates, drivers licenses etc) in water proof container
    4. Board game and playing card deck
    5. Individual “special needs” supplies
    6. Personal Protection items
