Be with us on this trip into
the North Maine Woods "bush"
where we will set up a
comfortable, dry camp.
This week is dedicated to
living in the bush in a
very simple and comfortable
way. Throughout the
course of the week you will
learn not by lecture or
taking notes, but by
actually doing the tasks
necessary to accomplish the
goal of becoming a skilled
woodsman.
If you are new to camping
and want to learn the "right
way" to do things or if you
have been camping for 40
years and want to learn how
to "do things better and
easier"...this is a class you
should consider.
At week's end you will
know:
-
How to pack for a trip
including how
everything is packed
including food and gear
-
How to access camp sites
and where
to set up the best camp.
-
How to find dry fire
wood and determining how
much is needed for
meals. daytime
activities and the night.
-
How to make an outside
fire and how to
efficiently cook with
it.
-
How to make great meals
in the bush like
home-made biscuits,
donuts as well as
casserole and other
meals as well.
-
How to find safe
drinking water and when
to purify with a filter,
when to boil and when it
is safe to drink.
-
How to find the wild
food sources available
including how to use
edible and medicinal
plants
-
How to navigate in the
deep woods
-
How to live with the
woods, the animals, and
with Nature
The
class will consist of many
more topics than these but
this will give you a flavor
of what you will gain from
this 7 day experience.
To sum it up...its beginning
to understand a "bushman's
life".
ALL EQUIPMENT YOU WILL NEED
WILL BE PROVIDED except for
you clothing, sleeping bag
and ground pad.

*On the first and last day
of the rip we will be
staying at a staging point
cabin before snowshoeing
into the base camp. To
make the trip more enjoyable
we will have a majority of
the heavy gear transported
to the base camp location
via snowmobile.
