Primitive Weapons Making for Small Game

Class Limit - 15 students

In this class you will learn how to make and use weapons to take small game.  The format of the class will be to give you some background on the weapon, show you how to use that specific weapon, demonstrate to make it, then break up for the workshop that will allow you to make your own that you will take home with you. In fact the items you will make will have a value of approximately $470 if you were to buy them pre-made.

Instructors will be on hand at each workshop to answer your question and assist you in  making each weapon

Class agenda for the week:

Sunday - Arrive at Western Reserve Farm

             - Introduction to Southeastern River Cane Blow Gun (history,
               manufacture, use)

Monday - Morning - Blow Gun Construction
              - Early Afternoon : Making Blow Gun Darts (thistle,
                                         feather, fur & cotton)
              - Late Afternoon : Learn to shoot and hunt with your
                                        Blow Gun
              - Dinner : On your own
              - Evening Program

Tuesday - Morning : Finger Weaving straps / Slings
              - Afternoon : Bolos
              - Late Afternoon : Learning to use and hunt with you sling and bolo
              - Dinner : On your own
              - Evening Program

Wednesday - Morning : Choctaw Rabbit Stick
                   - Afternoon : Catawba Rabbit Stick
                   - Mid Afternoon : Boomerangs
                   - Late Afternoon : Learning to use and hunt with your Rabbit sticks
                   - Dinner : On your own
                   - Evening Program

Thursday - Morning : Making Primitive Fishing Equipment
                - Afternoon : Tulling Spear, Rodent
                                   Skewers, Frog Gigs & Spears
                - Late Afternoon : Learning to hunt with your
                                          primitive fishing gear
                - Dinner : On your own
                - Evening Program

Friday - Crossbows 


Saturday - Morning : Finishing time for past projects with instructor guidance
               - Late Morning :Target practice with your weapons
               - Afternoon : "competitions"
               - Class ends mid afternoon

Camping facilities at the class will be available so bring your tent. Breakfast and lunches will be provided as well as all materials for all of the workshops.  There will be a 2 hour break for dinner at which time you can go out to eat at several local restaurants or prepare and eat dinners you brought along at camp  Your instructors will be Doug Meyer, Robert Likas, Glen Monaghan and Tom Laskowski

Please bring a sharp knife and small hatchet (carving rabbit sticks). old towel, work gloves, extra coarse, medium and fine sandpaper
